Constitutional Constructionism

The orthodox radical right members of the Tea Party pride themselves for being "Constitutional Constructionists", ideologically similar to those who believe in a literal translation of the Christian Bible: God created the world in six twenty-four hour days. etc.

The latest constructionist outrage is in regard to the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution, and the imminent peril presented by our President as he "secretly meets with government Storm Troopers, who will be ordered to kick down the doors of all law-abiding American citizens, and confiscate any and all guns."

2nd Amendment Text:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
First, the reference to a "Militia" is anachronistic and moot, as the United States now has the National Guard.
Second, "Arms" in the days of our founding fathers referred to muskets and flintlock pistols.
If Constitutional constructionist purists insist that that the Constitution means only what it states, then by all means, let every American citizen have the right to own a musket and a flintlock pistol.

La Commedia è finita! "The play is over!".
